This Illustration of practice demonstrates how Myrrhee School and Cathedral College Wangaratta incorporate career education in social enterprise programs. In 2015 both schools introduced social enterprise learning through the ACRE Social Enterprise Schools Initiative. Within this approach students establish a business in the school and raise profits to reinvest in a student-selected social cause within the community.
The programs at Myrrhee School and Cathedral College Wangaratta develop a range of general capabilities including Critical and creative thinking, Personal and social capability, ICT capability, Ethical Understanding, Literacy and Numeracy.
Both schools are situated in the local government area of Wangaratta, approximately 250 kilometres north-east of Melbourne. Myrrhee School is a small rural school located in the King Valley in Myrrhee. The school caters for 22 students from Foundation to Year 6. All students are encouraged to develop their interests and creativity, build technological skills, and learn how to engage safely with the wider world to prepare for the future.
Cathedral College Wangaratta is located 43 kilometres south of Myrrhee School in the cathedral city of Wangaratta. The school caters for approximately 970 students from Foundation to Year 12 and seeks to nurture students’ gifts and talents, broaden students’ experiences and develop the whole child.
